The Strangest Product Name Ever

Who would name a product or a company ooVoo, and why?

Here's the scoop from the ooVoo web site:

"ooVoo provides a high-quality video communication service that delivers a more meaningful way for people to call and connect over the Internet. ooVoo’s technology enables people to experience a face-to-face conversation and share a full range of emotions as if they are in the same room together, whether they are across the street or across the globe from each other. ooVoo’s superior quality video and audio is available to anyone with a computer, broadband connection and a web camera, for real-time video calls with up to six friends, relatives and colleagues simultaneously. ooVoo’s high quality video chat service includes video conversation recording, telephony, video messaging, instant message chat and file sharing amongst other capabilities."

Okay. But what's with the funny name? Don't know. Couldn't find the answer on the web site. But wait, Joseph Jaffe, President and Chief Interruptor of crayon, just used ooVoo to tell me what the word represents: two eyes and two mouths surrounding the V. Video communications/conversation. Fun!

Okay. So why am I writing about this thing with a funny name? I am a user and believe it holds great potential for my business and for my client's businesses. Currently, it is in Beta, and I am not yet recommending it because I want to experience more of it and continue to analyze and evaluate those experiences before I say anything either positive or negative about it. I do recommend that other consultants download the beta version and check it out for yourself.

Before sharing a cool video with you, here are two disclaimers: the first from me, the second from the creator of the video.

P.S. Seth offers a nice post on the importance of brand names by sharing a few horrible ones and explaining why they fall into that category. I think ooVoo is both memorable and offers wonderful story-telling opportunities. Read Seth's post, A dumb branding strategy, to get why he believes why that is important.

My Disclaimer: When I was invited to sign up for My ooVoo Day, I responded that I would like to but I did not have a web cam. For signing up and downloading ooVoo, the company sent me a free web cam. It will not affect my reporting on this service.

Video Creator's Disclaimer:  From: iamsemjaza--"This is Ungab, my first puppet creation. Today Ungab would like to introduce you to http://www.oovoo.com a service that my company is promoting. :)

"I must make it clear though. This is a hobby video I made that happens to mention ooVoo because I hear about it all day. This video is not owned or endorsed by anyone or anything other than me."
